abuse in change of custody

i just had court on the 18th for modification of visitation, it did pretty much go my way and i was not found in contempt. i did mention to the judge that my son is scared to see' his father and stepmom and that i suspected that some type of abuse is going on over there at their home. i have started counseling for him and the counselor also suspects that there is something going on as well. i have contacted my tribe for a free lawyer and asked if they could help me change jurisdiction, change custody from joint to sole, and modification of support. i was wondering if the counselor gathers enough evidence that abuse is going on is the grounds to change custody, if not at least stop visits or even have supervised visits? my son is scared to see both of them and i too am also scared that when i do send him on visits what he will be like when he comes home... i can tell you that he is completely a different child when he comes home. he takes his anger and directs it towards his little brother and tells him that he wishes he was dead. i would very much appreciate any advice. PS....i was also abused(physical, emotional, verbal)by my ex as well
