My sister, for the past 2 years has been making some very bad decisions, and pulling her daughter down with her. My niece is 7 years old and in 1st grade. My sister has neglected my neice while drunk and had numerous men living with her and staying at the house with her and brianna (my niece). Last summer was when it really started spirraling out of control. In august 2004 she went to cancun, and met a guy there. They kept in touch for less then a month, and she impulsively packed up left her mortgage and life here in Georgia to fly to Seattle Wa to live with this guy. Turns out that didn't work out (big suprise)so she moved back to Ga. to live with my mom in October (since she royally screwed up her mortgage) Within all the moving my niece missed more than 15 days of school. Within this period (oct-now) Brianna has missed more days of school because her mother sometimes is too lazy drunk or hungover to take her to school (the poor thing has missed so many days she cannot pass the 1st grade). My sister works until 7 at night, so Brianna get's off the bus at 2:30 and sits around the house for 4 and a half hours by herself (my sister says she can't afford an after school program but buys liquor or goes out drinking every night of the week). Sometime my sister has left her there until 9 or later because she wants to go out with friends after work. She has driven numerous times drunk with Brianna in the car, she has punched her, left her at home by herself, and many many many other things. I have battled for 2 years with whether or not I should DFCS. Thursday night my mother called me crying saying that Aimee(my sister) hasn't made it home and Brianna was with her (she called at midnight on a school night) By the way she lives with my mother but she works from 8 in the morning to 9-10 at night, so she can't be responsible for watching Brianna, besides it's not her's her mothers. So after that call from my mother my wife and I are planning to call Child Protective services on her. I guess my plea is.... are we doing the right thing? What will happen after we do that? We are really worried, we just want what's best for our 7 year old Niece!!!! Please some helpful advice!!!!!!!!!!!
